I recently came across an old article about four thieves who have been accused of stealing $800k in wood from Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington (Feds: ‘Music wood’ poachers targeted Washington old growth maples, Levi Pulkkinen, SeattlePI, Wednesday, August 5, 2015). I’ve summarized the case below. It reminded me that not all timber theft is created equal. If you are stealing the right kinds of trees, it doesn’t take many actual logs to count for big bucks.
