In a recent case, the Alabama Supreme Court upheld a multi-million dollar verdict against an Alabama timber processing company when several wood dealers filed suit claiming they were cheated into accepting lower prices based on a promise of participation in a federal subsidy program. In the initial jury trial, the defendants were awarded $1,092,692.71 in compensatory damages and $7,000,000 in punitive damages. After appeal to the state Supreme Court, the punitive-damages were reduced somewhat resulting in a total judgment of approximately $6.4 M.   Oct 2017 — An Interesting Case of Government Subsidies
