June 2017 — Stealing Walnut Trees
Recently I read an article about two Iowa men who are facing felony charges after the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said they stole nine walnut trees from the Loess Hills State Forest near Pisgah, Iowa. I wanted to share it here because it not only showed that public lands aren’t immune from timber theft but also showed that timber thieves can selectively choose more valuable trees and make quite a bit of quick cash with minimal effort on their part.
